This German airplane was developed specifically for slow speed flying and for slow speed take off and landing in restricted spaces. Its uses included reconnaissance and observation, messenger and courier plane, air ambulance, and as a ferry airplane for military officials. The Storch is best remembered for rescuing Benito Mussolini from the hotel where he was being held in the Gran Sasso mountain range on 12 September 1943.
